Supervised Visitation:
Family Law
The Family Nurturing Center (FNC) advocates for the rights of children to maintain contact with their parents and significant people in their lives, and strives to provide a comfortable setting for such contact. The children’s well being and emotional and physical safety remains the organization’s primary concern.
This program allows children to visit their non-custodial parents in an environment free from the concerns of the domestic violence, divorce or custody dispute that may have caused their separation. Under the supervision of Family Nurturing Center staff, children and parents can have a safe, comfortable visit that excludes discussion of legal issues or the custodial parent, and there is no contact between the parents.
Family Law program fees are based on a sliding scale and all participants must be court-ordered or consent to visits.
If you are involved in one of these difficult situations and would like to learn more about this program, please call the Family Law program at 904-389-4244, extension 3.
FAQ:
How do you keep everyone safe when using your services?
We take safety and security very seriously. For clients of our Family Law program at King Street, a number of enhanced security features are in place. They include a strict schedule for staggered arrival and departure times, as well as having a security guard on duty. In addition, we use metal detectors to screen for weapons, and maintain protocols which are designed to keep you from coming into contact with the other party.
What types of services do you offer through the Family Law program?
The Family Law program offers four different service classifications:
Constant supervision: A visitation supervisor will remain in the visit room with visit participants at all times.
Intermittent supervision: The visit supervisor escorts parties to their visit room and remains in the room until adults and children have established an appropriate level of comfort. The supervisor then leaves the room, returning periodically and/or monitoring a family’s visit via closed-circuit television on a random basis.
Minimal supervision: A visitation supervisor escorts the child to the visiting party, then exits the room. The visitation supervisor returns to the room five minutes prior to the end of the visit. There is no additional monitoring.
Monitored exchange: The child(ren) is transferred from one adult to another through the FNC.
What if the visiting parent wants to bring someone with them to participate in the visit?
Parties are required to request FNC approval for visitors at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled visit and the consent of the custodial parent (CP) will be required (FNC will contact the CP to request their consent).
