FNC awarded Blue Foundation Grant
Family Nurturing Center of Florida, Inc., Receives
$67,517 Grant from The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida
Jacksonville, Fla. — Families with children who have serious illnesses will have help managing life’s challenges thanks to a grant from The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. The Family Nurturing Center of Florida, Inc. (FNC) today received a $67,517 grant from The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, the philanthropic affiliate of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF). The funding will be used to fund the Nurturing Program for Parents and their Children with Health Challenges, a program designed to help families cope with the life-altering illness of one of their children.
FNC is a multifaceted supervised visitation and parent education center that supports underserved and uninsured families in Duval, Baker and Clay counties. The Nurturing Program helps families explore their hopes and fears, develop effective parenting techniques, enhance communication, develop strategies for facing challenges and recognize opportunities for celebration. During the two years funded, FNC expects 72 families to complete the program.
“This grant gives FNC the opportunity to launch the Nurturing Program and help foster growth and strengthen the family dynamics of its participants,” said Joe Nullet, executive director of FNC. “This generous support from The Blue Foundation enables us to continue our vision of creating a community of nurturing care for our children and their families.”
The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida is dedicated to making a constructive contribution to the health and well-being of Floridians – especially the uninsured and underserved. The FNC grant is one of ten, totaling $747,960, The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida has presented this summer to nonprofit health clinics and community outreach programs across Florida.
“The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida is proud to support the Family Nurturing Center of Florida,” said Susan Towler, executive director of The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida. “It is through such partnerships that we are able to build lasting solutions to meeting the health care needs of Florida’s communities.”
The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida awards grants during two grant cycles per year. With the completion of the 2007 summer grant cycle, The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida will have awarded 133 grants totaling nearly $7.4 million since its founding in 2001.
The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida is a separate, philanthropic affiliate of BCBSF incorporated in the state of Florida. The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida, and its parent, BCBSF, are independent licensees of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, an association of independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.
